The historical episodes I am going to present are among the most exciting episodes in the 20th century physics. They have all the twists and turns and ironies. In the case of S.N. Bose, it involved the failed attempts on the part of many stalwarts of the time including Einstein over two decades to unravel the true nature of RADIATION. It took a relatively unknown young Bose from Dacca University in East Bengal (now in Bangla Desh) that led to the correct interpretation of Planck’s law of black body radiation.
In the case of Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, popularly known simply as CHANDRA in the world of science, the discovery of a young student, not twenty yet, on a lonely voyage from India to England, concerning the fate of stars in the course of their evolution was contested and ridiculed by Arthur Stanley Eddington.
